2010 has not been an easy year with the severe winter being followed by a cold dry spring.  However, hopefully your lawn has now recovered and is in good health for the winter ahead.  If you do have any queries or concerns please feel free to get in touch, via phone or email, to discuss.

Autumn / Winter Treatments are starting now:
If we have not already been in touch you will be contacted over the next few weeks so we can arrange a convenient time for this treatment.
To allow Luxury Lawns to carry out the Autumn / Winter treatment – and for maximum effectiveness of the treatment - please ensure your lawn is clear of leaves and debris on the day the treatment will take place.

Winter Lawn tips
Remember . . .
Raise the height of cut slightly for your lawns last cut of the year and keep foot traffic to a minimum.
After the severe winter of last year and the problems that snow mould caused this is the ideal time to get your lawn aerated this will hopefully improve drainage in you lawn and let the air get to the roots which in turn will make the grass more disease resistant. Please give us ring if you would like a quote for aeration.
Remove leaves from the lawn as disease and unwanted pests can build up under them.
If it’s frosty stay off the lawn. Standing on a frosty lawn can damage the leaf by snapping it and therefore damaging the plant cells.

There are a number of diseases that can come into a lawn at this time of year, mainly fungal ones, which change the colour of your grass (usually yellow white or pink/red).  Keep an eye on your grass and if you have any concerns please give us a call for free advice and to discuss the best course of action for your lawn.

Offers

Fed up of Moss & Algae on Hardsurfaces?
A number of customers have tried our Moss and Algae on Hard Surfaces (e.g. paths, driveways, decking etc).  Feedback from customers is that this treatment works fast and efficiently.  Luxury Lawns can supply and apply a moss an anti-viral/anti-bacterial disinfectant, fungicide/algaecide and detergent which kills mould, algae and moss in typically 2-4 days, and is followed by a slow cleaning action in the following weeks and months.  This product will generally prevent regrowth for 9 – 12 months.  With no pressure washing or scrubbing there is no worry about washing out sand from between monoblocks and unlike power washing will not damage your hard surfaces.
·         Prices from £15.00.

Fed up of the Mess from Casting Worms?
Casting worms can leave your lawn in a real mess as they come to the surface and leave a heap of soil which, when trampled, looks really messy and makes an ideal seedbed for weeds.  Of course, if you have a worm problem you should feel complimented because it means you have a fairly active soil with good aeration and humus content!  To avoid the mess and weeds while maintaining the positive effects Luxury Lawns can supply and apply a worm control product which helps to suppress worms rather than killing them meaning worms work deeper in your lawn and not on the surface.
·         Prices From: £10.00

Luxury Lawns Newsletter – Summer 2010

Where did spring go – or did it even arrive?!
I hope you are not feeling despondent about your lawn - the Spring weather that we have experienced (dry and cold) hasn’t been good for grass.  It is only very recently that we seem to be getting a little growth. If you have had a scarify and your lawn hasn’t fully recovered please try not to worry too much - recovery should be on its way soon.  After the severe winter we have had some lawns are still not recovering from diseases – however this should start to ease soon.  If you are particularly concerned about your lawn please feel free to get in touch.

Summer Lawn tips

Watering

As you may have noticed rainfall has been less than normal for the months of March – May.  The Met Office Website states Spring rainfall was below average over much of the UK with some areas of the UK experiencing less than 60% of the average rainfall for period March – May.  With continued dry weather during June and predictions that this will continue over the summer it is important to give your lawn water.  Remember the best times to water are when evaporation will be at its least, so either early morning or in the evening.  When watering your lawn you need to give it a really good soaking to make a real difference.  A well maintained lawn will always recover when the rain starts again.

Mowing
Remember to Mow your lawn at around 1 inch.  Also please cut your lawn regularly, remember the rule of thumb is never to cut any more than one third of the blade of grass. The more you mow the grass the better it will look.

Trampoline Damage
For those of you who own a trampoline please try and move it around your lawn where possible, I have seen a lot of lawns where the grass underneath cannot get light and ends up going very weak and in some cases dying out.

Luxury Lawns Newsletter – Autumn 2009

Luxury Lawns has now been trading for 8 months. Donald & Lynne Campbell would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support in our new venture. We have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge so far and look forward to continuing working with you. We have compiled this newsletter to give you some helpful hints on caring for your lawn over the winter months and to let you know about some new products we now have on offer which may be of interest to you.

Winter Lawn tips

  • Raise the height of cut slightly for your lawns last cut of the year and keep foot traffic to a minimum.
  • Winters are getting milder and growth spurts can occur, keep an eye on the length of your grass and give it a light trim if you feel it necessary.
  • Remove leaves from the lawn as disease and unwanted pests can build up under them.
  • If it’s frosty stay off the lawn. Standing on a frosty lawn can damage the leaf by snapping it and therefore damaging the plant cells.

There are a number of diseases that can come into a lawn at this time of year mainly fungal ones which change the colour of your grass (usually yellow white or pink/red). Keep an eye on your grass and if you have any concerns please give us a call for free advice and to discuss the best course of action for your lawn.
